Stop the Inequality - Begin the Revolution Right From Your Home!

When it comes to stopping the inequality, the revolution has to begin right from our home.

Indian women have been the victim of this prejudice from even before the independence. The male dominated society has always shunned women from stepping out of home, earning money, enjoying, etc. Thank God, its 21st century and times have changed…! The weak voice now exudes strength and confidence kicking out fear. Women have raised the curtains and stepped out of the locked doors to showcase their talent to the world.

However, stains of the male dominated society’s ink are still not completely washed. The irony is that though today’s women walk along with men hand-in-hand assuming no task to be small but never did they encounter the same gesture in return. I strongly condemn such an unfair deal.

For instance, running a home is actually a shared responsibility of all those who are staying there under one roof – working, non-working, children, adolescents, oldies. It is has to be a collective effort to take charge of all the home chores…from the nitty-gritties to the major ones!

But we Indians hold a strange belief where the women alone have to take charge of almost all the domestic chores – regardless of being working or non-working! Truly ironical… isn’t it!
More than 2/3rds of Indian women feel, there is inequality at home, between men and women.

From, cooking to cleaning, from washing clothes to making the home look beautiful, from looking after the children to being socially active among the relatives– all such tasks fall in women’s “To-Do List” by default.

In an attempt to manage house and work, women often fall prey to the deadly depression and stress which gradually leads to anxiety and lack of self-confidence, subsequently followed by numerous health-hazards. Apart from the ill-effects on health, the relationships are also deeply impacted.
Today's Super Woman
A survey reveals that the women in emerging economic and social markets are more stressed than those staying in the developed nations. 85% of working Indian women feel they have two jobs, one at work and another at home. 73% of married Indian women feel, a man prioritises relaxing over helping with household chores.

Looking at the heart tearing scenario in India, a volcano of questions erupts in my mind –
  • When women are not less that the men in any regard, then why this inequality persists?
  • Is managing the household chores only a woman’s duty? Why cannot the men take some charge?
  • Is Laundry only a woman’s job? Why cannot the men too share the load?
Few Statistics…
  • 76% of Indian men feel, laundry is a woman’s job.
  • More than 2/3rds of Indian men prefer to watch TV than to do the laundry.
  • 77% of Indian men, depend on women for doing the laundry.
In spite of the subtle and sleek corporal built, women possess the courage and patience to handle even the hefty and the most difficult tasks. Quick initiative from Indian men is required to share the domestic responsibilities, before it is too late… before they lose the angels from their lives! Extend your hand of help to your lady who does not really require the machines to carry out the chores but your love and cooperation.

Men have to take the pledge to combat their uncanny behaviour and appreciate the women for their multi-tasking skills at home and work. Hats-off to the “Indian women” who far more deserve the worth than the Indian men present!
